Stay Fresh runs four hostels across Amsterdam-Centrum, Amsterdam-Oost and Haarlem. Pre-LockMe, the front desk burned 40+ minutes per shift on luggage logistics. Post-LockMe, it burns zero.
The before picture
Each hostel had a back-of-house luggage room with a paper claim system. Bags went missing twice a year on average. Reception staff couldn't sell tours and transfers because they were tagging bags. Reviews on Hostelworld and Booking.com hovered around 8.4 — solid but not great.
What we built together
A LockMe-powered storage zone in each property, branded as Stay Fresh. Guests book the moment they arrive (or pre-arrival via the booking confirmation email) and unlock with a 4-digit PIN on a Stay Fresh-branded screen. Reception staff still handle VIPs — but they do it in two taps from the dashboard, not by walking to the back room.
The result, twelve months on
- Front desk time on luggage: down 87%
- Lost bags in the last 12 months: zero
- Hostelworld score: 8.7 → 9.1
- Ancillary revenue from luggage: €0 → €58k across all four properties
- Total time to launch all four: 11 working days
What the GM said
"The luggage room was the worst part of the property. Now it's the bit our guests post on Instagram. Same square metres, completely different business." — A. de Vries, General Manager, Stay Fresh
